Pinwheel Summer Wreath

I was inspired to make these pinwheels from the tutorial over at Jones Design Company and then decided they needed to be on a wreath!

I had a straw wreath sitting around, so I tore several strips from some navy ticking I had while chatting on the phone and then started hot gluing and wrapping around the form. Sorry there are no making of pics, I was just absently doing this!

After I made the three pinwheels, I glued a button to the middle of each and a straight pin to the backs so I could just poke them into the wreath. That way if I want to change it up, it's simple.

I made diamond shapes out of yellow scrapbook paper, stamped each piece with some distress ink in Antique Linen, stamped the letters for SUMMER with some cute little letter stamps in black ink and then glued each one to a length of twine. It's attached on the back with more glue. Hot glue really is my friend LOL

I glued and pinned a piece of twine for a hanger, and up she went. My husband loves it and we have it in the living room and it brings some cool cheer in on the hot summer days. That sounds so cheesy :)

There you have it, pretty, easy and fun!

Baby Gifts

So, a family friend is having a baby and I decided to get all crafty and make her a gift :) I always like to make things harder for myself too it seems...

Instead of just buying cloth diapers - I decided to make them myself! What was I thinking? I bought diaper cloth and sewed flannel down the middle to make them soak up more. Then I embellished one end with cute fabric and coordinating rick rack.

Super cute, but super time consuming. They're all a slightly different size and my sewing skills are improving as I go. Not perfect, but hey, they're hand made with LOTS of love :)

Next up, custom - matching - bodysuits!! These were a lot easier and faster to make. I surprised myself by the fact I didn't sew through both layers or do anything crazy!! :)

His name starts with a D so I thought this would be fun. I did pretty well stitching around the letter :) I'm such a newbie at this! First, I used double interfacing for the letter so it wouldn't wiggle around while stitching, then sewed, then on the inside of the shirt I ironed on some liner type fabric so the stitching wouldn't irritate sweet baby's skin.

Next one is a cute whale. Complete with water spout! I freehand cut him out and used same method above to attach. Instead of zig zag on the whale, I just straight stitched around him. All the curves would have driven me insane!

Last one is a simple little boat. You can hardly tell, but it's two sails next to each other. Used the same method as the other ones. I guess I ended up with a nautical them for the last two. Weird...

All in all I think they all turned out well and I really hope the mom to be enjoys them!!

Okay I'll Admit It...

I am a craft hoarder.

There, I said it. I am a little insane when it comes to craft supplies, etc. I have a whole entire room upstairs, the dining room table and other surrounding horizontal surfaces *and* half a garage. Not to mention my crazy random spray painting sessions in the back yard - in. the. wind. Yes, I've spray painted in less than ideal situations. Oh and I white spray primed, in a black shirt. In the wind. Crazy right?

But, luckily I do use the stuff. And my hubby only halfway gets annoyed. He just wants to be able to eat at more than half a table each night *grin*.

But back to the hoarding. If it's not within plain view of me, I totally forget I have it! Or, I'll spend forever looking for something, give up, buy a replacement, find the original later and eventually lose both again. I have a problem. I will be organizing the room upstairs soon and getting shelving put up and little cute storage bins and baskets and hopefully remember what my mom taught me about putting away my toys when I'm done playing with them.

This is why this is called "A Room Full of Good Intentions". I buy something with a vague idea to its future use or just because I'm a hoarder and just *have* to have it! Or I'll die or something. Like seriously, it keeps me up at night.

One last thing, the room upstairs. The "craft room". Is actually our former master bedroom. We moved into the smaller one down the hall and my sweet hunny said, here now you have more space. Ha! Little did he know he opened a whole new can of worms. More space = more junk!

I blame my parents.

Just kidding :)

Shabby Nest Wreath

This is what I do at night instead of sleeping LOL

I had the chippy frame already from a friend, I just had to clean her up a bit. I printed out the "nest" onto paper and with a fabric pen, traced it onto muslin. Then I sewed it to a scrap of burlap. Next, I painted a cream color on the willow wreath, gift from my grandma :) and wrapped it in some more scrap burlap. I made the nest with my muslin, twine and burlap trimmings and made two little eggs from clay. They got a pretty paint job and were glued in. I hung the nest from the frame with seam binding and printed out a pretty blue paper from some digital scrapbook paper I have. This was attached to the back and finished the look off. I like it propped up on my dry sink, but might hang it eventually. It's "springy" without being too pastel/bright. Goes great with my other blue display and topiary! See my last post for that one!

Spring Vignette

Isn't it pretty? I finally got around to using some of the items above and made a pretty moss topiary, painted paper mache bird, painted metal bird house and another moss ball. I found the cloche at a thrift store recently and couldn't wait to actually put it somewhere! I can be a hoarder and like my title says, my good intentions for things turn into entire room of stuff! I painted and distressed the little pot, stamped a cute birdhouse, wrote home underneath, sanded again, filled with floral foam, moss, a painted wooden dowel topped by a moss covered ping pong ball. All things that didn't seem like much at first, but all together - pure cuteness :)
